Have you ever heard someone pray, “God, please heal
my brother” or “As I pray for my sister, God, please answer my
prayer and heal her”? These prayers are heartfelt and sincere, and there’s
nothing wrong with asking God for healing. But there’s a deeper truth we need
to understand about prayer and healing—one that has been misunderstood for
decades.
Many people believe that God moves His hand of healing because of
their prayers. While prayer is powerful and essential, this perspective can be
misleading. It suggests that God is reluctant to heal unless we beg or persuade
Him. But is that really how God works?
God’s Will for Healing
The truth is, God’s will for our healing is clearly
manifested and declared throughout the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, we
see a God who desires wholeness and well-being for His people.
- Exodus
15:26 (NKJV): “I am the Lord who heals you.”
- Psalm
103:2-3 (NKJV): “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all
His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your
diseases.”
- Isaiah
53:5 (NKJV): “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He
was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon
Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”
- 3
John 1:2 (NKJV): “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all
things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
These verses reveal a consistent truth: God’s heart is for
our healing. He doesn’t need to be convinced or persuaded to heal us. Healing
is already His will.
Pathum’s Miracle: A Testimony of God’s Healing Power
Let me share a story that beautifully illustrates this
truth. Pathum, a young boy, was critically ill, and his mother, overwhelmed
with fear and unbelief, challenged God, saying, “If God is alive, let
Him heal my son.” At the time, my wife didn’t even pray for Pathum.
She simply trusted in God’s will and His power to heal.
And God moved.
Miraculously, Pathum was healed—not because of anyone’s
prayers, but because of God’s unwavering will to heal. This miracle wasn’t
about convincing God to act; it was about His love and power being revealed in
a desperate situation. Pathum’s story is a powerful reminder that God’s healing
isn’t dependent on our prayers—it’s rooted in His nature and His promises.

The Role of Prayer in Healing
If healing is already God’s will, why do we need to pray for
it? Prayer isn’t about changing God’s mind—it’s about aligning our hearts with
His will and releasing His promises into our lives.
When we pray for healing, we’re not begging God to do
something He’s reluctant to do. Instead, we’re declaring His promises, standing
in faith, and inviting His power to manifest in our situation. Prayer is a
partnership with God, where we agree with His will and release His kingdom on
earth as it is in heaven.
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is
in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10 (NKJV)
In heaven, there is no sickness, pain, or disease. When we
pray for healing, we’re asking for heaven’s reality to manifest in our lives.
The Misconception About Prayer
One of the biggest misconceptions about prayer is that it’s
a way to manipulate God into doing what we want. This mindset reduces prayer to
a transactional relationship, where we try to earn God’s favor or convince Him
to act.
But prayer is so much more than that. It’s a relationship.
It’s about intimacy, trust, and surrender. When we pray, we’re not just asking
for things—we’re connecting with the heart of God.
“And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if
we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” — 1 John 5:14
(NKJV)
When we pray according to God’s will, we can be confident
that He hears us and will answer. And since healing is His will, we can pray
with boldness and faith.
How to Pray for Healing
Here’s how you can pray for healing in a way that aligns
with God’s will:
- Declare
God’s Promises: Use Scripture to remind yourself and God of His
promises for healing. God says, “Put Me in remembrance; let us
contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted” (Isaiah
43:26 NKJV). Remind Him of His Word, such as:
- “By
His stripes, we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
- “I
am the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26).
- “He
heals all your diseases” (Psalm 103:3).
- Pray
with Faith: Believe that God wants to heal and that He is able to do
so.
- Partner
with the Holy Spirit: Acknowledge the Holy Spirit’s presence and power
within you as a believer. Ask Him to release His healing power into the
situation.
- Surrender
the Outcome: Trust God’s timing and wisdom, even if the healing
doesn’t happen immediately.
For example, instead of praying, “God, please heal
my brother,” you could pray:
“Father, I thank You that You are the Lord who heals. By the stripes of
Jesus, my brother is healed. I declare Your promises over his life and release
Your healing power into his body. Let Your will be done, in Jesus’ name.”
Why “Partner with the Holy Spirit”?
As believers, the Holy Spirit already dwells within us (1
Corinthians 6:19). We don’t need to “invite” Him to act because He is always
present. Instead, we partner with Him by acknowledging His
power, listening to His guidance, and allowing Him to work through us. This
reflects our authority as children of God and our reliance on His Spirit to
accomplish His will.
A Message of Encouragement
If you’ve been praying for healing—for yourself or someone
you love—don’t give up. God’s will is for you to be whole and healthy. Keep
standing on His promises, declaring His truth, and trusting His timing.
Remember, prayer isn’t about convincing God to heal—it’s
about partnering with Him to release His will on earth. He loves you more than
you can imagine, and His desire for your healing is greater than anyone else’s
in the whole world.
